What we source
Metal fabrication and weldments
Amerigo sources custom metal fabrication and weldments from American fabrication shops. Send a drawing or model and we route it to a few fabricators built for that work. They cut, fit and weld structural steel, tube and plate into frames, skids, machine bases, guards and equipment assemblies, from a single frame to repeat production. Each shop that quotes sends back its own name, price and ready date, and you pay one price through Amerigo.
Send a drawingAbout metal fabrication
Metal fabrication here means welded assemblies rather than flat sheet parts: tube and angle frames, plate weldments, equipment skids, machine bases, and the guards and panels that bolt to them. The work is cutting (saw, plasma, laser), fitting, welding (MIG for steel, TIG for stainless and aluminum), and often machining after welding so mounting faces and bores are true. Finish is usually powder coat or paint; stainless assemblies are often passivated or bead blasted.
Equipment builders often need a mix on one project: a large frame weldment, sheet metal guards and insulation panels, and final assembly. Many fabrication shops take that as one job; where part of it fits another shop better, we can route that part separately and tell you which shop makes what.
What a shop needs to quote: a drawing or model with overall dimensions, material sizes, weld symbols or a note on weld class, finish, and where the assembly ships. Large weldments need crating worked out, so say how it will travel.
Questions buyers ask
- Do these shops build complete fabrications, not just parts?
- Many do: frame weldments, guards, panels and assembly on one order. If part of the job fits another shop better, we can route that part separately and tell you which shop makes what.
- Who handles freight on a large weldment?
- Unless the quote says otherwise, the goods are handed over at the manufacturer's dock (FCA, Incoterms 2020) and you arrange and pay freight on your own carrier account. A shop can ship on your behalf when its quote says so and at what cost. Amerigo does not book or pay for freight.
- Can they weld stainless and aluminum?
- Most fabrication shops weld carbon steel and stainless; fewer weld aluminum. Say which on the drawing and we route it to shops that do that work.
- Do I need a weld spec?
- Not to get a quote. Say whether the assembly is structural, food or pharma contact, or cosmetic, and the shop quotes a weld class that fits. If you have a spec, such as AWS D1.1 or a sanitary standard, put it on the drawing.
- How long does a job take?
- Each quote states the manufacturer's own lead time. It depends on the part, the material and the shop's load, so Amerigo does not publish a standard lead time. If you have a date you must hit, put it on the request.
