FAQ
Questions buyers ask before sending a drawing
How sourcing custom metal parts through Amerigo works, from the drawing to the delivered part. Payment, delivery and claims follow the Standard Terms of Sale, which govern every order.
Send a drawingSending a drawing
- What do I send?
- A PDF drawing per part with material, thickness or stock size, tolerances, finish and quantity. Add STEP, DXF or DWG files if you have them. A photo and a description can work for simple parts and repairs.
- Do I need a STEP file?
- No. A STEP file speeds up the quote and reduces questions on bends and hole positions, but a PDF drawing is enough to quote.
- What kinds of work do you source?
- Custom metal parts made to a drawing: sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, welded fabrications and weldments, and metal finishing, from one part to a production run. Not contract manufacturing of a finished product line.
- Can I send a quantity of one?
- Yes. Many of the manufacturers Amerigo works with take one-offs and short runs as their normal work.
Who quotes
- Who makes my parts?
- The manufacturer named on the quote, in its own American facility. Every quote carries the manufacturer's name.
- How do you choose which manufacturers see my drawing?
- By fit: the process, material, size and quantity, and what the shop actually does day to day, not just what it lists. Location comes second. Amerigo AI reads the drawing and we decide where it goes. Amerigo does not publish a list of manufacturers; you see the ones that quote your job.
- Have you spoken to these manufacturers?
- Yes. Before a manufacturer quotes your job, we have talked to them about their work.
- How many quotes will I get?
- We route each drawing to a few manufacturers built for the work, not a broadcast to fifty. Whether and how many quote depends on the job, so Amerigo does not promise a number of quotes.
Price and payment
- What does Amerigo cost the buyer?
- Nothing on top of the quote. You pay the price on the manufacturer's quote. Manufacturers pay Amerigo a commission on work they win through Amerigo, and only on that work.
- How do I pay?
- Through Amerigo. Orders under $10,000 can be paid by card or bank transfer at the same price. Orders of $10,000 or more are paid by bank transfer.
- When is payment due?
- Under $10,000, the full price is due when you accept the quote. At $10,000 or more, the default is half on acceptance and half when the manufacturer posts a ready-to-ship notice; the manufacturer can set a different deposit on its quote. Production starts once the payment due on acceptance is received.
- When is the manufacturer paid?
- Amerigo holds your payment on the manufacturer's behalf. The deposit share on the quote is released to the manufacturer when it marks the order in production. The rest is released after you accept the goods. If you make a claim in time, the disputed amount stays held until the claim is resolved.
- Is Amerigo the seller?
- No. The manufacturer is the seller and makes the parts. Amerigo acts as the manufacturer's agent: it carries the drawing, the quotes, the order and the payment in one place, under terms both sides can read before they start.
Lead time and freight
- How fast do quotes come back?
- Quotes arrive on your job as manufacturers send them. Timing depends on the job and each shop's load, so we do not promise a turnaround.
- How long until I have parts?
- Each quote states the manufacturer's lead time. It depends on the part, the material and the shop's load. If you have a date you must hit, say so when you send the drawing.
- Who handles freight?
- Unless the quote says otherwise, goods are handed over at the manufacturer's dock (FCA, Incoterms 2020) and you arrange and pay freight on your own carrier account. A manufacturer can ship on your behalf when its quote says so and at what cost. Amerigo does not book, pay for, or take responsibility for freight.
- Can parts ship directly to my customer?
- Yes. Your customer receives the goods as your consignee and inspects for you. Any blind-shipping or paperwork instructions must be on the quote.
After the order
- What if the parts are wrong?
- You have 14 days from delivery to report a shortage, damage or non-conformance through the claim form on your order. The disputed amount stays held. The manufacturer responds within 5 business days and you resolve it together: repair, rework, replacement or credit. If it is not resolved within 15 business days, Amerigo decides how the held payment is split. Amerigo does not inspect the parts itself.
- Can I reorder the same part?
- Yes. Send it as a new request and say it repeats an earlier order. Reorders with a manufacturer you met through Amerigo run through Amerigo.
- Where are the manufacturers?
- American manufacturers, starting in the Northeast: New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
